Tennis fiasco!!!

AITA succumbing to the whims and fancies of tennis players is a joke. I am not even going to blame freak shows like bopanna and bhupati who have their egos bigger than the game and the national interest.

Blame lies on the system (AITA in this case). Any player can have the audacity to dictate terms over and above the national interest if he/she knows that he can get away with it and will have his/her way.

This is not about tennis, this is the story of our country in general.  Pairing of players is not a negotiable instrument. All kinds of permutations and combinations come to fore when the governing body shows the signs of weakness that it is open for options. That is like opening a can of worms. You cannot really point fingers now, who is at fault, who is not, who said what, what was the response. I mean that’s like trying to cure the symptoms not touching the root cause.

Selection Decisions need to be autocratic in nature, period. Take it or leave it, in-fact penalize rigorously if you decide to leave it.  Set an example for generations to follow, bar these freak shows from representing the country EVER. Let these jokers play grand slams and collect trophies in individual stateless quota coz that’s what they ask for, that’s what they should get.

Just imagine, after getting a slap, shreesant declares if harbhajan plays, count me out. No prize for guessing what would be bcci’s response.

Point taken that tennis is an individual sport unlike cricket however no amount of excuse (even a slap, leave alone Bhupati’s cry baby ‘I was stabbed in the back’ grudges ) are enough to shun your national responsibility. You are because of the game and not the other way round you Padma shri recipient.

Is Rajat Gupta a criminal.

Mr. Gupta has been accused of passing confidential information to a hedge fund for personal gain. Actually, he has been sentenced with circumstantial evidence which means that irrespective of personal gain or not, he has been convicted for sharing private info.

Going by this, half of the world should be behind bars. So many times I have seen the price of a stock rallying due to great quarterly numbers, mergers and acquisitions a lot before the news being made official.

Leave alone that, it is a well known fact that if party A comes to power, there are set of companies which will benefit and another set which will doom.  It is a universal phenomenon. We all know who backs which candidate. We also know who is sponsoring the election expenditure. For me, that is the biggest insider trading of all time. You are planting an insider (President) to trade the fortunes.

And 90% of the world’s wealth has been made by networking and contacts, put all of them behind bars. Irrespective of where you draw the line, you cannot rule out hypocrisy.

Having said that i think one thing that I can safely take out from this debacle is that American Judicial system is lot better than anywhere. We have the Rajus of satyam and raja of telecom scam free and ready to get on with their next act.

These punishments are symbolic in nature, while greed is an instilled human factor and cannot be eradicated completely, what these decisions do is remind you that the consequences can be crucifying.

Our judiciary system is unfortunately plagued by lethargy, inaction and general chalta hai attitude which has resulted in general disregard of rules and law.
I mean you see this daily don’t you. Traffic rules been violated, women pillion riders not suppose to wear helmets, a court case taking average of 5-10 years to finish.

The bottom line is that there is no danda. Danda is the tool that makes the world go round. By convicting Rajat Gupta, American judiciary has yet again proved that they have courage and integrity enough to stand up for ethics and give a symbolic decision.
